The situation
A medical platform built on Angular and Flask handled sensitive data, and it needed stronger access control and an architecture that one engineer could realistically maintain and extend. There was no team to hand problems to: I was responsible for the whole system.
What I did
- Led the migration toward Django, which provides authentication, permissions and admin tools that are well tested and easier to maintain.
- Built role-based permissions, so each user only sees and changes what their role allows.
- Added IP-restricted authentication, so the system can only be accessed from approved locations.
- Built the platform’s workflows and user administration.
- Added security controls and handled ongoing maintenance of the live system.
For confidentiality, this case study doesn’t include screenshots or any client or patient data.
The result
- A single engineer — me — ran and maintained the platform end to end, from features to security to day-to-day support.
What this means for you
If your system handles sensitive data and you don’t have a large team, you need someone who can own it completely: understand the whole codebase, keep it secure, and keep it running.
