The situation
Print-ordering businesses deal with messy client uploads, incorrect resolution files, missing bleed margins, and paper stock miscommunications. When jobs hit the production floor, workers rely on paper slips that get misplaced.
Print Shop was developed as a modern open-source example app demonstrating how web apps can streamline both the customer-facing ordering configurator and the backend production pipeline.
What I built
- Live Product Configurator: Interactive preview allowing clients to customize print sizes, paper weights, finishes, and orientations with real-time price calculation.
- Automated Artwork Pre-flight Checks: Client-side canvas verification to flag resolution warnings, aspect ratio mismatches, and margin clipping before orders are submitted.
- Works-Floor Kanban Board: A real-time 4-column workflow dashboard (Queued, Prepress, Printing, Finishing) with drag-and-drop state transitions for shop floor technicians.
- Add-on Slots System: Modular architecture allowing print shops to toggle add-on services like foil stamping, lamination, and express shipping.
The tech stack
- Core: Next.js, React, TypeScript.
- Visuals & Canvas: HTML5 Canvas API, Tailwind CSS, component primitives.
- Architecture: Open-source module built for clean integration and zero friction deployment.
